TONNY,
Kristians. Dutch painter and draughtsman. Born Amsterdam 1906. Perfected
the transfer drawing technique. In 1931 the Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum mounted
an exhibition entitled, Tonny, Tchelitchew, Berard Berman Leonard which
included several Tonny drawings similar to our. Tonny was associated with
Andre Breton, Georges Hugnet, Paul Eluard and other Surrealists in Europe.
Although he was one of the less well known surrealists, Tonny was highly
regarded by his contemporaries. He was represented by the Julian Levy Gallery
in the late 1930's, and Alfred Barr, James Thrall Soby, and Gertrude Stein
included his work in their personal collections. In 1936 Tonny was included
in Alfred Barr's "Fantastic Art Dada Surrealism" exhibition at
