Large rto, 13 ff gilt-edged. With 12 full page plates, including 6 wood-engraved pictorial borders and 25 illustrations by Doyle, all HAND-COLORED . Stiff, green paper wrappers. This was a special colored edition printed on better paper than the newsprint of the ordinary issues. In the 1848 issue Doyle created lively renderings of the rich and famous figures of the time. The May/June entry, for example depicted the famous Swedish singer Jenny Lind. Doyle also portrays the London theatre season. This issue was so popular that the separate color edition was printed. Very Rare. Special issues for other years have not been found. Rebacked, some slight foxing on back cover, otherwise in fine condition. Engen, Richard Doyle, p 55.
